Using Antique Furniture in the Kitchen
There are many ways to incorporate antique furniture in your kitchen. Antique furniture will provide warmth, a sense of heritage, and a unique style that is uncommon in today’s plethora of cookie-cutter designed kitchens.
While you may live in a newly built home, including a piece of antique furniture in your kitchen can transform the look of the kitchen as well as providing storage, more counter space, and decorative appeal. A simple way to include antique furniture in your kitchen is with an antique dining table, and antique chairs. Many combinations can be created, and the fun part of utilizing antiques in the kitchen is that all of the design elements don’t have to match. Try pairing a round pedestal table with four cane seat chairs. If the table is a little beat up, all you have to do is apply a few coats of paint, and it will look as good as new. The same goes for the chairs, try painting each one a different color, and add plump cushions for even more individual flair.
Another great way to incorporate antique furniture into your kitchen design is the use of a piece of furniture called a dry sink. This is an old fashioned term for a small side board, or buffet. Dry sinks usually feature 2 doors in the front of the cabinet, and a recessed area on top, that in the past was used as storage for a china pitcher and china basin. Now, you can simply use the dry sink for storage and decoration.
An antique armoire makes a great addition to the kitchen, and can be used much like a pantry or cupboards. Try painting the interior back portion of the armoire a bright color, or basic black to add some punch and make your items you store inside really pop. Armoires are great for displaying china, and other collectibles in your kitchen.
